about
Working under the moniker Model Staggs, Tom Miller and Ash Allerton make homespun recordings out of a make-shift cabin studio located in the Essex countryside. The songwriting duo began collaborating around 2011, shortly after meeting at a local gig spot in Cambridge and discovering their shared taste in quirky, melodic indie music and admiration for deep thinking bands such as Grizzly Bear, Radiohead and The National.
Both being keen to write and record their own music from day one, they began developing their sound in an upholstery factory during closing hours and went on to self-release their first 3 track ep in 2012. Eventually, their ambitions and general direction in life led them both to London. Here the wheels came unstuck for a number of years while the two grappled with the difficulties of finding time and space within the city’s sheer expanse. Eventually, realising that they needed a base of their own if they were ever going to move forward, the pair started work on constructing a ramshackle recording space, a safe haven in which to record a full debut album.
Due for release in 2018, ‘Keep Running And Hold On’ is the culmination of around three years’ worth of ideas, developed from a scrapbook of old phone recordings and demo tracks into a broad-ranging and powerful set of tunes that encapsulate some of the struggles of modern life and love, both inside and outside of the city.
The lead single ‘Bad Bone’ from the forthcoming album was released on 25th May 2018.
